In May 2003, the Onyx Awards made its debut at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando. Three hundred guests were in attendance. In April 2004 and March 2005, there were 600 in attendance. Our guests includes proactive individual from throughout the state (ranging from representatives of our state and local governments to leaders of large corporations, all levels of professional endeavors and our stabilizing force, our grass-roots citizens who are dedicated and committed to making a difference in the community.).
Themed “Oscar” style, the atmosphere is every bit red carpet, white tie; however, moving past the fanfare, the Onyx Awards is a presentation that serves a dual purpose:
1). To celebrate selected individuals’ professional accomplishments and community service.
2). To create funds to go directly to LBS Foundation Incorporated to benefit health and education initiatives.
This year, our major focus is sickle cell disease and scholarship. Our goal is to send young sickle cell victims to summer camp.
